In 2001, Aarhus City Council made a decision in principle to build a Mediaspace which among other things is going to encompass a new main library.

The project competition took place in 2008 and by then, the project had grown to include a new Citizens’ Service centre, restructuring the infrastructure in the area and opening the remaining part of Aarhus River.

Furthermore, thanks to contributions from the fund Realdania and Realdania Byg, the entire construction project includes new waterfront spaces as well as an automatic car park, which is being built beneath Mediaspace itself.
