In 2005, Aarhus City Council decided to establish a light rail transit system in the city. The image above shows what the area around the future Mediaspace may look like in 2016.
Plans to establish a light rail is included in the municipality’s overall strategy for attaching greater priority to public transport.
The light rail runs along the new waterfront spaces but will not impede access to the waterfront as the tracks will be embedded in the pavement itself – similar to the tracks for tramcars in the old days.
Since the light rail runs through the area at low speed, it will not be necessary to fence in the tracks, as is the case with Grenåbanen today.
The light rail will stop at Mediaspace, Skolebakken and Nørreport.
We have great focus on light rail traffic safety. In the area surrounding Mediaspace and the waterfront spaces, pavement markings will show you that you are crossing the light rail tracks.
Visually handicapped will also be able to feel the markings.
