Today, the municipal corporation of Aarhus approved a city council recommendation, which states that Mediaspace, part of the project Urban Mediaspace Aarhus, is to have the largest solar cell facility in Northern Europe. The structure will thus live up to the requirements in low-energy class 1.
The City of Aarhus is serious when it comes to energy-efficient buildings, which Mediaspace is a good example of.
Various energy-saving initiatives have been built into the project. Both active and passive initiatives are thus integrated in the project. The most significant initiative is the installation of a 3,300 m2 solar cell facility on the roof in order to upgrade the building to low-energy class 1.
Power-saving initiatives have also contributed to the fact that the building has reached the top energy class.
All in all, the initiatives are expected to result in an annual energy saving of 830,000 Danish kroner. The solar cells will not influence the architectural expression.
The cost of upgrading the building to low-energy class 1 is approximately 35 million Danish kroner. The project contributes 21 million kroner, while the rest is financed by the achieved savings on energy.
